Ralph Macchio defends the criticisms that were made about Karate Kid, saying the show is too white.

During an interview with Stellar Magazine, Macchio addressed critics' claims that the hit fighting movie "Karate Kid," which stars the late Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, has a very white cast and doesn't dive into the Asian story.

The Cobra Kai star Ralph Macchio responded to the criticism by saying that the movie was ahead of its time because it was a popcorn movie that talked about Japanese internment camps during World War 2.

"Pat spent two years in the camps, so it had double meaning and some depth," Macchio said.

Macchio also revealed that the important scene almost did not make the final cut.

"They felt it took too long," Macchio shared in her memoir. "The studios' main concern was that if the movie ran over two hours, they would lose daily screening time and essentially money in the process."

"I lobbied very hard for that scene because I felt it was the emotional heart of the picture; it humanized Mr. Miyagi for Daniel," the film's writer, Robert Kamen, said.
